I didn’t post this yesterday only because I didn’t have a chance to with such a busy night and because I didn’t think about it until I went to sleep.

THIS, my friends, is a picture of the first Filipino dish I have ever cooked. What is it called? I believe it’s called kalabasang may gata - otherwise translated as Squash with coconut milk. I added string breans and shrimp and you know, that cooking love. I was very proud of myself for cooking it. I was a little nervous and I wasn’t sure if it was turning out right in the beginning, but I had to go into it with some sort of confidence, right? …and voila! It was an amazing dish. I think I did QUITE WELL for it being my first time. No judging, but my friends seemed to like it as well. I personally thought it tasted just as good as home cooked food could ever taste.

Then.. as I was about to fall asleep, I thought about what I did… and I realized that the dish I cooked was one of my favorite dishes from childhood - it still is now. But, more importantly, it was a dish that my Lola (grandmother) used to feed me. I have this tendency to mash up my squash and mix it with my rice because when I was younger, my Lola would do the same for me. So, for as long as I could remember, I would always eat squash like that… with this dish at least. I’m sure she’s looking over me and she’s proud that I was able to cook it all by myself :)

Yeah. It’s been a while since I’ve typed anything. Then again, it’s summer.
